Self Drilling Screws are designed specifically for drilling through thin sheet metal, and are available in a range of head types, drives and stainless steel grades. For less corrosive applications, 410 grade stainless steel can be used which is harder than the 300 series grades and drills well. For more corrosive environments and to use externally, Hardtec grade stainless steel is more appropriate. Hardtec is a grade with the hardness of 410 stainless steel but with the chemistry changed to improve its corrosion resistance.
